You’ve probably read everything there is to read about starting a lingerie blog, so we’ll cut right to the chase.
If you’re considering starting your own lingerie blog, here are 3 important questions you’ll want to ask yourself before publishing your first post:
1. Do you have a unique point of view?
The online world is saturated with blogs - what sets yours apart from the rest? You’ll need a unique point of view, a passion for lingerie, and a dedication to your audience if you want your blog to stand out. As a lingerie store owner, you’ll also want to consider the strengths of your business - what resonates the most with your audience? What is your unique selling proposition (USP)? You’ll want to reference these when planning your content.
2. Do you have a plan for producing and promoting content?
Running a blog can be very time consuming. A large portion of your “blog time” will be dedicated to writing, editing, formatting, publishing, and promoting your blog posts. Whether you choose to write all of the blog posts yourself or partner with a team of freelance writers to help out, you’ll want to consider where your content will be coming from before launching your blog. Your readers will be waiting for new content, so you’ll want to keep a consistent schedule to keep their interest (and Google’s for SEO purposes).
Do yourself a favor and create a simple editorial calendar in Excel so you can keep track of article titles, target demographic/buyer persona info for each blog post, incoming/outgoing pitches and articles, due dates, publishing dates, statuses (in progress, revision requested, approved), etc. Think of it as your main control center for the content portion of your blog.
Lastly, decide on a reasonable publishing schedule that is manageable and works for you. If you’re just dipping your toes into blogging, you may want to start out slow with a few posts each month. No need to rush into five posts per week. As exciting as launching a blog can be, setting a goal that you may not have the time and resources to reach will only dishearten you. So take off some of the pressure and ease into a publishing schedule that fits your needs.
3. Can you invest in something that may not pay off for a while?
It’s rare for a blog to go viral from the start. It usually takes a lot of time, articles, and promotion for a blog post to gain traction. If you’re launching a blog to increase your website’s ranking for SEO, it’s not enough to just hit “publish” and then move onto the next post. You’ll need a solid plan for promotion as well. Your social media accounts are a good place to start, but don’t forget about your email list too.
With each blog post you’ll need a call-to-action as well, which could be subscribing to your email list, sharing the article with a friend, booking a bra fitting appointment online, reading another one of your articles or visiting an important page on your site, asking them to sign up for your email list so they can download an e-book you created on bra fitting or bra styles, etc. As you can see, each blog post is a potential conversion page for sales on your site and traffic to your store. You’ll want to maximize each and every post for the best results.
Blogging is one of the most challenging and rewarding things you can to market your business. And it goes so much further than just marketing, too. Not only are you passing on your expertise to help people feel confident, comfortable, and amazing in their lingerie, but you’re also building lifelong connections with the people that read your blog.
Your readers are potential, current, and future customers of your store. They’re searching for solutions to their bra fitting woes and you’re right there helping them out with your expertise. If you have an online lingerie store, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not blogging. And if you’re not blogging, what are you doing to connect and build meaningful relationships with your customers? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
