The end of the year is a great time to strategize for your lingerie store’s next year.
You can review which strategies worked for your lingerie business and which ones didn’t. Then, you have a foundation on which you can build the next year’s strategy.
If your lingerie business also has an online store, it’s more important than ever to have a solid e-commerce strategy. E-commerce sales were up 16% in Q2 of 2017 compared to the same time period in 2016, according to SaleCycle. And the U.S. Department of Commerce reported 53% of Internet users made an online purchase in 2016. That’s more than half of Internet users!
To help you build out your e-commerce strategy, here are 7 e-commerce stats you must know for 2018:
More than half of website traffic comes from mobile devices.
Mobile devices make online shopping easily accessible. According to SaleCycle, 51.3% of website traffic comes from mobile devices. And, that traffic results in about 36% of sales. With that kind of mobile traffic, your lingerie business’ website must offer an appealing mobile version to capture those sales.
38% of users will leave a website if the layout isn’t attractive.
It’s not new news that websites must be attractive and functional for them to generate revenue. Hubspot reported that 38% of users will leave a website if the layout isn’t attractive. Don’t risk losing website traffic to a quirky layout. Conduct a review of your lingerie business’ website to locate any quirks in functionality or appearance. Then, invest in improving your customer’s online shopping experience for 2018.
63 out of 100 shoppers read your return policy before purchasing.
A hassle-free return policy will encourage shoppers to buy from your lingerie store. A ComScore study found that 63% of shoppers read your return policy before making a purchase from you. On the other hand, a poor return policy deters shoppers from buying from you. Make sure your return policy is easily found on your website in 2018. And, try to make it as customer-friendly as possible.
Only 18% of shoppers consider 5-7 days a fast delivery.
Consumers want instant gratification today. A few years ago, it seemed normal for a delivery to take 5-7 days to arrive. However, now only 18% of shoppers consider 5-7 days a fast delivery, according to a Criteo e-commerce study. Instead, 92% of shoppers consider a two-day delivery fast. With so many e-commerce sites offering “fast” delivery, you must do so, too, to compete.
Only 11% of shoppers use desktop only.
Another ComScore study found that 11% of shoppers use a desktop computer only to shop online. The majority of shoppers use multiple devices to shop online. This means that your customers are accessing your lingerie e-commerce site on various screen sizes, including desktops, mobile devices and tablets. As a lingerie store owner, you must ensure convenience, regardless of which device your customers are using to shop.
Women spend about 5 hours per week shopping online.
Men and women love shopping online. According to BigCommerce, both men and women spend five hours per week shopping online. It was also found that millennials are more likely to be influenced by advertising. Keep this in mind when putting together your digital advertising strategy in 2018.
The average online shopping cart abandonment rate is 69.23%.
A Baymard Institute study found that 69.23% of shopping carts are abandoned. That’s a lot of business sitting in shopping carts! Consider what may be contributing to your cart abandonment rate. Perhaps it’s a poor return policy or slow website loading times. To increase revenue in 2018, your e-commerce strategy will need to account for decreasing cart abandonment.
If price slightly differs, a customer will buy from the company with the better customer experience. Keep the customer experience top of mind when creating your e-commerce strategy for the new year. Putting the customer’s needs first will help build a strategy that yields results.
